In today’s job market completing an internship is not just a nice idea or a little cushion for your resume. Completing an internship and having at least some work experience is pretty much a requirement in many fields. Even though there are many thousands of internships out there, with so many students applying it can be hard to find the right one. There are a few qualities that set some internships apart and make them worth your time.

There is a big debate between paid and unpaid internships . Although it may be one of your requirements, it can be hard to pay the bills if you don’t have a paying job or someone to support you, however it usually isn’t a determining factor in the quality of the internship. News releases recently stated that some companies were having students pay for internships and that is probably not the best route for getting an internship.

A lot of the quality of the internship will be based on you, what you are looking to get out of it. The US educational system has been struggling for years. For decades the news has included report after report of falling test scores, rising violence, and severely underfunded classrooms. While wide-scale change is in the realm of politicians, lawmakers, and lobbyists, there are little things that individuals can do to help their local schools.

One of the most visible ways of helping your community schools is evident when you go shopping. More and more retail stores and grocery chains are offering some sort of receipt program. These partnerships with local and national retailers provide a donation tied to the amount of your purchase. Some require that you put your receipt in a jar or box and write the name of the school or district you wish to benefit or to visit a website and sign in with a code on the receipt before indicating the beneficiary. Tens of millions of dollars have been donated to schools across the country using programs like this.

Charities exist with the specific goal of saving arts and/or music programs in schools . Donations to these organizations result in the purchase of musical instruments, art supplies, or funding of teachers and programs. You can also take a more direct approach and purchase items yourself to give to a teacher or school in your neighborhood. The Rocks Discovery Museum in Sydney

What are the Rocks? Anywhere else in the world, these two words would suggest not much more than the stones in a desert yard, but in Australia, specifically Sydney, the Rocks has a much more significant meaning. Here, the Rocks are an historic area at the center of the city, found on the southern shores of Sydney Harbor. The area is bordered by the Bradfield Highway, which leads to the grand Sydney Harbour Bridge, and by Dawes Point and Miller’s Point in the west. It’s adjacent to Circular Quay which is on Sydney Cove and is the site of Australia’s European settlement, which was established in 1788.

If you find yourself overnight at Sydney hotels , with a little time on your hands, you’ll want to check out this area of Sydney, first by exploring the area museums and, if you happen to arrive in October, by attending the Darling Harbour Fiesta. The fiesta is a free event, which includes 30 bands, 45 dance groups, 15 dance classes, all in the space of three days and three nights. Around the same time you’ll also experience, the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, the Burma Food and Cultural Festival, as well as the Darling Harbour Photo competition.

The Rocks Discovery Museum is a free family exhibition that provides a detailed history of the area. The fact that many of the buildings are historic here, and the fact that it’s close to the Circular Quay with views of the Harbour Bridge, make the site popular with visitors.
