Meditation for Answers

August 31st, 2010

When it comes to connecting with a divine source, higher power, or just a sense of unity with the universe, there are some basic tenets that seem to work over time and place. With this in mind, it’s said that prayer is speaking to the divine, and meditation is listening . Of course, there are hundreds, and perhaps thousands, of ways of meditating, and some even say that for every person there are a many ways. Looking for answers, then, for all of life’s most complicated questions always involves getting quiet.

That’s the first step for most meditation, and for some practices, that’s the only step. In some practices, there are more formal ways of getting answers, and one can be by simply focusing on the question, and keeping it at the forefront on one’s mind. Other practices, like Sahaja Meditation therapy , are methods for cultivating the mind’s natural ability to meditate. The focus here is not on a question, but on the quietness.

Getting the mind to stop trying to talk to itself can be one of the most difficult things to do, but when it happens, it becomes a reflect until the process is really quite simple. It’s always good to have resources available, because although the answers are always within, the paths to getting there are many.

August 20th, 2010

Cancun is located in one of the most fascinating parts of the world. As a place with some of the most luxurious hotels in the world, it’s been a popular tourist attraction both within and outside of Mexico. People from all over the world, in fact, are drawn to the magnificent beaches, looking to catch some time in the sun during the day, and take part in some very lively parties at night.

It’s also very close to some of the endlessly interesting sites where the Mayan civilizations of earlier times constructed pyramids and monuments in the center of the old cities. It’s a long bus ride to Palenque from Cancun, but well worth the trip. If the pleasures of the luxury Cancun hotels have offered enough lazy days, a trip into the wilderness might be the perfect way to indulge in some wanderlust.

The ancient civilizations did fold or fade away, but the Maya people are still making the contemporary cities in this part of Mexico. The deep history of culture and tradition are very much alive, continuing in an evolutionary spiral of moments of time. There are also groups participating in some very important activities in keeping the environment protected all along the Maya Route, demonstrating that history is a book that’s always being written in time.

Florida Has its Virgil

August 14th, 2010

Every place needs to have its own Virgil. The mythic figure who lead Dante through the levels of heaven, hell, and purgatory, is one that has been inspirational to all poets and writers. Virgil exists as a kind of Apollonian counterpart to the muse, cutting the way through the path in order to find the golden fleece of lyrics and epic narration. It’s somewhat ironic, then, to find that the English Department at Florida State University has an award-winning writer on its faculty who serves in a similar capacity.

Virgil Suarez , who earned his MFA in 1987, has been tracking the human experience in fiction and in poetry. Lately, however, the muses of poetry have been speaking louder than the ones who like a good story, and this is where his focus currently lies. Born in Cuba, he articulates the experience of identity with a kind of precision and clarity than few other writers are able to even approach. It’s been a terrific journey so far, and his readers are always eager to find the new doorways he might encounter.

The experience of exile is one that informs all of his works, as it does for most people who come from that particular island. The memories of an old Havana find a powerful juxtaposition in the city views and luxury hotels Florida offers, and it gives a sense of being here and there all at once.

Beautiful Sunsets in Phoenix

July 24th, 2010

Most people claim that if you have ever been to Phoenix one of the things that you will never forget, that is one among many, is the amazing sunsets that the Valley enjoys. There is something about the panoramic views and the desert itself that creates such a dynamic and colorful sky both at twilight and sunrise that they are matched almost nowhere else in the world. City laws were even established that restrict the height of buildings so that they will not interfere with the natural views. The sunsets account for one of the reasons why so many people love Phoenix, and also for the reason there are no sky scrappers in that part of the Sonoran Desert .

Many of the luxury hotels Phoenix will have excellent views of the desert-scape and this will include the amazing spectacle that hits the desert twice daily. There are various scientific oriented opinions regarding the reasons for the beauty in the sunsets and one of them relates to the amount of dust in the air. This is a rather unattractive theory, though the desert does have a lot of dust. One thing is certain though, and that is that during the summer monsoon season , the sky comes alive like what is rarely seen during any other season and it is so vibrant and dynamic it seems to be one of the live environmental factors. Experience them yourself, visit Phoenix in August, but bring sun screen.
